What is a team? A team is define as a group of players forming one side in a competitive game or sport. That definition is just scratching the surface of what a team truly is. For the Sporting SD B2006 team, we have a deeper understanding of what a team is. For us, it’s a family, a brotherhood, going into every practice and every game knowing that we all have each others back. Just having that different mind set has help us become stronger as a team and ultimately make us a more successful one.
Forming a team is not the easiest of tasks, you try to find players who fit in with the team, just like putting a puzzle together. This year, I was very fortunate to have picked up five players with differant skill sets to help compliment those that the team already has. Adding those new players with the players who have been on the team, anywhere from a year to five years, has added a new dynamic to the team.
In the midst of our tournament season, the team is off to a great start. They are playing well and as a result they won their last tournament. These boys are always working hard, pushing each other to get the best out of one another. Every challenge thrown at them, whether it be an individually one or one for the team, they get through it and triumph together. I am very proud of every single player on the team, they all have made my job as a coach a lot easier. If you go to one of our games you’ll hardly hear me say anything to the team, aside from an occasional tactical change here and there, but that’s because they are very intelligent group of players and pick things up really quick. I look forward to the future to come with this team. Go Sporting!
